OPA Show

For the past few months, I’ve been busy traveling all over and finishing up a number of portrait commissions. Sorry for the lack of posts; The next few posts will be making up for lost time… The good news is that now I am freed up to focus on my latest series of paintings for my December solo show!

Here is a glimpse into the fantastic Oil Painters of America National Juried Exhibition held at the Legacy Gallery in Scottsdale, AZ this past May. This show was filled with work by many incredibly talented artists, and it was a huge honor to have my painting hang alongside such amazing work!

I am INCREDIBLY honored and ecstatic to announce that my work is featured on the cover and inside of Art Calendar Magazine’s May issue! Amaryllis

In the midst of painting a number of commissioned portraits, I needed to loosen up and decided to do a painting for myself inspired by a model that I had just met. Her coral colored cheeks and lips just called out for coral colored amaryllis flowers crowning her head. One stem’s worth ended up fitting perfectly! Dalilah Rain is such an exquisite model…don’t be surprised if you see more paintings of her in the future…

As soon as I finish up my last few commissioned portraits, I will be gearing up for a new body of work. I am hands down more excited to paint this new imagery than I have ever been in the past! I’ll keep you posted with details. : )

Accepted into OIL PAINTERS OF AMERICA Annual Nat’l Show!

My painting, Belle Fleur (36″ x 24″ oil on Belgian linen) was recently accepted into the prestigious 19th Annual National Juried Exhibition of Traditional Oils! It is quite an honor — I could not be happier! I look forward to a fun weekend in Scottsdale, Arizona for the opening reception, which takes place on Friday, April 30 from 5-9 pm. The show will be held at the Legacy Gallery from April 30 – May 30, 2010. For anyone in the area interested in popping by, the gallery is located at the address below and its hours are 10am – 5pm seven days a week.

After living in LA for almost nine months, I finally made it out to the highly esteemed Jeremy Lipking’s studio for his Tuesday night life painting class. He, of course, is ridiculously talented, and last night there were a number of other brilliant artists in town visiting. It was great to paint alongside some of the best painters of our time! Local artists Tony Pro and Alexey Steele were there along with visiting artists Chris Pugliese, Rose Frantzen and her husband Charles Morris. I also had the pleasure of meeting artists Rachel Constantine, David wilson, and Luis Sanchez who joined us later on.

Look at Rose Frantzen’s incredible new body of work currently on view at the Smithsonian.

Plein Air Painting in the Park

Just came across this snapshot of the painting I did in November 2009 during the Charleston Fine Art Dealer’s Association annual Painting in the Park event. Artists from CFDA galleries gathered in Washington square and painted for a few hours. All of the paintings were donated to be auctioned off that evening to raise money for Charleston school’s art programs. Thanks to American Art Collector’s Amy Elliot for posing so eloquently for me.
